Make Mobile Work For You

The cover story of the March issue of Building Operating Management will cover how successful facility managers have used mobile technology to create efficiencies in their FM organizations.

My favorite quote from reporting the piece is from Frederick Remelius, director of operations for Upper Merion Area School District. I asked Remelius if there is any hesitation among the older workers on his staff to use tablets for closing out work orders and the like. He said there might have been at first, but almost everyone has a smart phone these days — even old guys — so it wasn’t a huge switch. And I as I thought about it, he’s right – smart phones aren’t just for teen-texters anymore.

But his quote, which just slayed me, was this: “I’m more clever than phone-obsessed teenagers because I’ve found a way to use these devices for practical purposes.” He’s right, isn’t he?!

Look for the story on mobile technology in the March issue of BOM.
