Provides an overview of Facilities management and its application in various business sectors. Stresses the importance of a strategic approach to the management of a facilities and support services. Introduces the fundamental concepts of FM, reviews the state-of-the-art and developments in the UK. Describes the organisational framework necessary for the implementation of facilities management systems. Identifies core skill area for the facilities management profession.
Facilities Management Processes
Provides an introduction to processes of planning, providing and managing facilities and identifies opportunities for process improvement. Introduces a quality approach - Quality Managed Facilities' - to developing and managing facilities to achieve strategic business objectives.
Facilities Economics
Introduces the concepts and techniques of value management. Introduces the premises audit to identify the occupancy costs of buildings and techniques of budgeting and cost control. The course develops the concepts and techniques of property valuations, capital charging and controlling property overheads and their impact on managing the physical environment. It introduces the concept of "premises audits" and "asset management". The course focuses on managing costs, defining valuation parameters and managing those parameters to identified costs.
Facilities Management Practice
Introduces professional practice of facilities management. Facilities management roles , responsibility and liabilities in practice. Introduces the legal and contractual framework within which facilities management operates, including legislation workplace and the procurement of services. Development of profession and market.

Identifies processes of providing organisational and operation support and the contribution facilities make to organisational success. The class explores the relations amongst people, processes and facilities through time in the context of organisations.

Commmunications Management
Explores the role of information in organisational decision making, communication and organisational effectiveness. Develops and understanding of the role of information in business re-engineering and customer services. Analyses the decision making process of whether to outsource IT. Considers the implications of outsourcing and the relationships with contractors.
Strategic Property Management
Explores the relationship between property and business. Introduces key development processes and identifies the roles of project sponsor and leader, to provide an understanding of the responsiblies of an 'intelligent client'. Provides an understanding of alternative forms of tenure and introduces processes of acquisition and disposal of property. Stresses the importance of strategic management of property as the fifth business resource.
Workplace Strategies
Provides introduction to alternative workplace strategies to provide a competitive edge. Introduces strategies to reduce occupied office space and provide work environments that reflect a more flexible relationship between the employee and his or her work settings.
European Practice 96
Facilities Management - European Practice 96 is the title of a book published under the auspices of EuroFM, IFMA and CFM. Under the editorship of Keith Alexander, it includes an overview of the state-of-the-art in Facilities Management in Europe with the results of recent surveys, progress on benchmarking and professional development. In addition it includes a series of papers from authors across Europe on themes that include Managing Facilities Performance, Managing the Workplace and Managing Facilities Information.
