Viega: Company's New Facility Will Boost U.S. Production of MegaPress Metal Press Fittings
Orlando, Fla. — For the first time in company history, Viega LLC will manufacture a metal press system in the United States. The new 80,000-square-foot manufacturing facility is expected to open this month in McPherson, Kan.
The new facility, south of Viega’s existing 439,000-square-foot facility, is part of a multimillion-dollar investment in the company's U.S. manufacturing operations and will encompass the production of the Viega MegaPress line, the first press fitting technology for black iron pipe.
The expansion is expected to create about 100 new jobs in the area over the next five years.
“This expansion is proof of the growing Viega footprint in the U.S. and part of our long-term strategy,” said Dave Garlow, president and CEO, Viega LLC. “The added capabilities in McPherson will improve service for our customers in a variety of ways, including better availability and faster delivery.”
The newly added facility will feature state-of-the-art manufacturing technology and equipment to produce the Viega MegaPress line.
“Viega is proud to bring the German quality that our customers know and trust to manufacturing right here in the U.S.,” said Robert Boots, COO, Viega LLC. “The carbon steel material used in MegaPress fittings makes the Viega MegaPress system one of the most complicated lines to manufacture. Bringing this line to a U.S. facility is paving the way for future growth.”
The Viega MegaPress system is a fast, safe, and reliable way to join schedule 5 to schedule 40 black iron pipe using a unique press technology to secure pipe connections in under 7 seconds. It is the only carbon steel press solution for water and gas applications, and Viega MegaPressG fittings are the only press fittings certified for use in fuel oil and natural gas applications.
The company owns and operates five strategically located manufacturing and distribution centers around the U.S. Each facility is ISO 2008:9001 certified and operates with a comprehensive, state-of-the-art quality management system that guarantees the best possible products and services.
“Viega began manufacturing in McPherson in 2006 and we opened our current manufacturing center in 2009,” Boots said. "The city of McPherson and the state of Kansas as a whole are very supportive of industry; everyone in this area takes tremendous pride in their work and those are the people who make Viega great.”
