Moraine Valley Community College Builds Green and is Seeking PLATINUM! Building Tour & Case Study hosted by the USGBC - Illinois Chapter!

Program Description:

Join the USGBC - Illinois Chapter's South Suburban Branch for an education program and building tour at Moraine Valley's Southwest's Education Center in Tinley Park.

The project architect will review key points about the building, how it was designed for learning, and what will push it into a Platinum facility.  As he was closely involved in the project, he will be able to address some of the sticking points in the LEED Process as well as design of the building.

This being Moraine Valley Community College’s first Green Building, the building operator will discuss what’s been different (if anything) about operating it. He will share lessons learned during the construction or operating of the building, LEED Certification process, including challenges and successes.

First and foremost, this building was built for academic purposes and as a green building second. The building coordinator will share hands-on observations and anecdotal feedback from occupants including staff, faculty and students. Faculty use the building as a teaching tool, staff are comfortable in the healthy space and students are intrigued by the cool features, like the green roof or bioswales.

Building tours will follow the panel discussions.
