UNT System names Maguire vice chancellor for Administrative Services

Dallas (UNTS), Texas -- James Maguire has been named vice chancellor for Administrative Services and chief architect for the University of North Texas System.

"James has a great combination of technical and people skills and valuable experience in both campus and system environments," said UNT System Chancellor Lee Jackson.  "He will be ready to step in immediately to help our System continue its rapid development in Denton, Fort Worth and Dallas. He will assume oversight of our design and project staff members and take the lead in collaborating with campus presidents and their senior staffs."

Maguire formerly served as associate vice president for Campus Planning and Facilities at Boise State University. Prior to that assignment, he was director of Capital Program Implementation for the University of California System and an architect in private practice.

At Boise State, Maguire’s responsibilities included facilities operations and maintenance; public safety, risk management and transportation; facilities planning and design, architectural and engineering services and space planning. He also chaired the Facilities Planning Council.

Maguire received his master’s in architecture from the University of California, Berkeley, and bachelor’s degrees in fine arts and architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design. He is a licensed architect in California and is registered with the NCARB (National Council of Architectural Registration Boards).

Maguire assumes the position held for nine years by Richard Escalante who retired Jan. 31. During his tenure, Escalante oversaw the UNT System’s move to constructing all future buildings to meet or exceed the latest efficiency and environmental standards.  Within the past two years, six new buildings have earned gold-level LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

In his new role, Maguire will be responsible for oversight of all major facility construction projects including architect and contractor selection, field oversight of ongoing projects, campus master planning, real estate acquisition, mineral agreements, and related reporting to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
