Testing Facility Built For Chiller Advancement
On a remote site in a rural community in York County, Penn., stands a brand new state-of-the-art research and development complex built to exacting specification for Johnson Controls, a global diversified technology and multi-industrial leader serving a wide range of customers in more than 150 countries.
The complex is the newest and most advanced engineering and testing facility for chillers in the world. It includes a 107,000-square-foot engineering office building and a 250,000-square-foot testing lab and support facility.
“As a one-of-a-kind, large-scale, advanced development and engineering lab facility, the Johnson Controls project had a number of unique construction challenges—from tight budget constraints and its rural location to a naturally rolling terrain that needed extensive regrading and fill, and extremely harsh winter weather conditions during a critical phase of construction,” says Ryan Molen, project director at McCarthy Building Companies, Inc.
