Sloan To Help Chicago Cubs Improve Water Efficiency
Milwaukee, Wis. — Jan. 29, 2015 — It isn’t taking long to see the first tangible results of the new partnership between the Chicago Cubs and Sloan. On Jan. 8, the two organizations announced that Sloan had joined the Cubs organization as a Legacy Partner and the team’s Official Water Efficiency Partner. Work is now underway to install new automatic faucets and water measurement equipment at the Cubs' Spring Training Facility in Mesa, Ariz. The goal is to have the equipment installed by the start of spring training March 5.
The Mesa park is being renamed Sloan Park.
“This is just the first step,” says Parthiv Amin, vice president of marketing for Sloan. The deal has a larger goal: to use Sloan's experience and expertise to improve water efficiency across the Cubs’ entire organization.
The new deal is a continuation — and a significant expansion — of a long relationship between the two organizations. There are currently Sloan products in both the Mesa facility and in Wrigley Field. In fact, Sloan believes that some of its products were installed when Wrigley was built in 1914.
“The plan going forward is that all the products would be Sloan,” says Amin. The timing for the new partnership is good. The Cubs have embarked on a four-year expansion and restoration of Wrigley Field. Project 1060, as it is known, will include new and improved restroom facilities, the Cubs say. The partnership designed to improve water efficiency comes at just the right time — the 1060 Project is currently in its first year.
In addition to Wrigley Field and Sloan Park, Sloan's objective is to help the Cubs with water efficiency at its facility in the Dominican Republic as well.
Sloan has experience with high-traffic sports facilities. For example, the new Levi Stadium outside of San Francisco features a range of Sloan Solis solar-powered products, including EAF-275 electronic handwashing faucets, WETS 2050.1201-1.28 and WETS 2000.1201-1.28 high efficiency toilet flushometers and wall-hung water closets, and WEUS-1000.1201-0.125 high-efficiency flushometers and urinals.
The deal brings important benefits to Sloan as well, benefits that go beyond the visibility the company gets as a Legacy Partner. The Cubs' facilities, says Amin, give Sloan a showcase it can use to spread the word about how the company can help customers drive sustainability. “It’s also a platform to show how we are working with the Cubs to drive sustainability,” says Amin. Customers can experience, in a live setting, the products and technologies that Sloan offers, as well as get a look at products that are in the experimental stage.
