Quartz Floor Hits the Right Notes at Award Winning Painted Rock Estate Winery in Okanagan Valley

Flowcrete Americas has been involved in a stunning floor installation at the Painted Rock Estate Winery located in Penticton, BC, Canada.

The family business, run by proprietor John Skinner, produces a wide range of internationally acclaimed wines, from its signature Bordeaux blend to single varietals: Chardonnay, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Sitting high atop a bluff, overlooking Skaha Lake in BC’s Okanagan Valley - on what was once the center of the largest apricot orchard in the British Commonwealth - the winery boasts 60 acres of vines, a striking new tasting room and spectacular vistas across the valley.

Painted Rock’s new tasting lounge and events facility, designed by Robert Mackenzie Architecture in collaboration with Dominic Unsworth in 2012, provides a multi-purpose function space allowing Painted Rock to host private events including weddings and corporate retreats looking for a unique venue with a stunning backdrop.

Pristine white walls and floors flow seamlessly into the minimalist design of the building, which has an open plan feel to take advantage of the picturesque elevated outdoor surroundings.

Some 2,000 sq ft of Flowcrete Americas’ fast-cure, MMA quartz flooring system, Flowfast Quartz, was installed in external areas, creating a terraced patio that extends from the tasting lounge alongside 1,500 sq ft of a complementary Peran STB epoxy quartz system in internal areas by Flowcrete Americas’ STAR rated floor contractor, Unlimited Surface Solutions.

This formed part of a floor renovation project, replacing a pre-existing brilliant white epoxy floor, which had been provided as part of the original construction by competitor manufacturers and installers that had become slippery, dirty and at times dangerously bright in the low-hanging afternoon sunshine.

Flowfast Quartz is a robust, wear resistant and fast cure MMA flooring system with a decorative quartz finish. At Painted Rock, a special blend of off-white quartz aggregates were used and sealed with a clear, UV resistant methyl methacrylate sealer to provide light-stability.

MMA systems are famed for their speed of cure, typically delivering a trafficable surface just 60 minutes from application. As such, MMA systems are often used in renovation projects at operational sites looking to minimize disruption, downtime and ultimately any loss to profits.

The external installation of MMA flooring systems also included Painted Rock’s logo, which was inset seamlessly into the floor at the entrance to the building.

The Peran STB system laid inside the facility utilized the same off-white quartz blend to provide a decorative, wear and slip resistant surface inside the main tasting lounge and bar area. Peran STB offers excellent chemical and stain resistance – a must have in an environment prone to red wine spillage.

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and wife Laureen made a visit to Painted Rock Estate Winery  earlier this year, touring the vineyard with proprietor John Skinner, during one of two scheduled campaign stops in Penticton.

This followed the news that Painted Rock had been named Winery of the Year at the 2014/2015 InterVin International Wine Awards.

Flowcrete Americas offers a complete package of specialty polymer and HACCP International certified antimicrobial treated floor coating systemsdesigned to cater for all areas within the winery – from back end production and barrel rooms through to tasting lounges and office facilities.
