PRSM Association: Group Elevates FM Designation to Reflect Changing Industry

Dallas, Texas — April 25, 2016 — The Professional Retail Store Maintenance Association, (PRSM), the authority on retail, multi-site facilities management, announced that the Retail Facility Maintenance Professional (RFMP) designation has now become the Retail Facility Management Professional.

The RFMP designation stands as a mark of excellence and has evolved to reflect the in-depth management knowledge required to manage multi-site retail facilities in today's challenging climate.

The retail facilities management industry has grown and evolved exponentially during the last 20 years. Once, a retail facilities professional might have been solely responsible for the maintenance of stores. However, in today’s technology-driven, data-management world, FM professionals are often responsible for the complete physical management of hundreds of stores. Duties often include the management of supplier relationships, energy, work orders, and technology, as well as sustainability programs and the maintenance of brand image.

“The facility management professional has evolved and been elevated since the designation was created in 2007,” said Patricia Dameron, executive director, PRSM. “This change in the RFMP designation recognizes the increased responsibilities now managed by our members and enables them to truly distinguish themselves in the marketplace. Holding the designation represents an individual’s overall understanding of the profession and, validates the full scope of knowledge that FMs may require throughout their career. “

The transition from the old to the new RFMP designation will begin this summer. Starting in September, there will be new requirements and processes for applying the designation. For more information, visit prsm.com.
