New York State Energy Research and Development Authority: BuildingIQ’s Predictive Energy Optimization Platform to be Deployed Across 25 Buildings

New York City — June 28, 2016 — The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) announced its partnership with BuildingIQ and Energy Solutions to implement a scaled deployment of BuildingIQ’s Predictive Energy Optimization (PEO) platform as part of the Emerging Technology Accelerated Commercialization Commercial-Institutional (ETAC-CI) program.

This initiative supports market adoption of energy-saving and load-reduction technologies through high-impact, statewide demonstrations and aligns with Gov. Cuomo’s Reforming the Energy Vision (REV) strategy.

It offers training and certification on BuildingIQ’s cloud-based PEO platform, as well as up to $20,000 per building for installation. The pilot will run until fall 2017 or until incentive funds expire.

The new project focuses on developing the market infrastructure necessary to bring the PEO technology to scale in New York State. As part of the demonstration, the cloud-based platform is being implemented statewide across a variety of buildings, including commercial offices spaces as well as those within the healthcare, education, and retail sectors.

It will aim to expand BuildingIQ’s network of qualified installers and offer trainings on how Demand Response can improve customer value proposition. Moreover, BuildingIQ’s monthly subscription pricing model minimizes upfront costs and is generally cash-flow positive within the first year of implementation.

Developed through the support of NYSERDA’s Clean Energy Fund (CEF), which is designed to accelerate the state’s use of energy-saving innovations and improve customer decision-making, the pilot will validate project energy savings and publicly share results through published case studies, webinars, and an interactive online dashboard. The aim is to promote customers’, contractors’, and other stakeholders’ understanding of the technology’s energy and non-energy benefits.

“The energy market is complex, and organizations like NYSERDA are vital for identifying and delivering technologies that can benefit New York’s power grid,” said Scott McCormick, vice president of sales and business development, BuildingIQ. “The ETAC program supports proven technologies, like BuildingIQ’s platform, by helping to provide the market infrastructure necessary to scale. It also builds consumer confidence through verified performance data at scale.”

Scott Smith, senior program manager, NYSERDA, said, “The scale of this project is making a wealth of performance data available in aggregate to customers and contractors. The use of Real Time Energy Management is allowing us to increase customer confidence in new technologies by demonstrating the value of platforms like BuildingIQ. Through the success of these programs, we hope to make good on the CEF’s promises to grow the state’s clean energy economy, lower energy costs, and realize significant emissions reductions.”

BuildingIQ is a provider of advanced energy management software that actively predicts and manages heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) loads in commercial buildings.

NYSERDA offers objective information and analysis, innovative programs, technical expertise, and support to help New Yorkers increase energy efficiency, save money, use renewable energy, and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

Energy Solutions is an employee-owned energy efficiency and demand side management (DSM) consulting firm that has been designing and implementing innovative DSM programs since 1995.
