NRCA Provides Resources For Roof System Repairs Following Hurricane Irene

ROSEMONT, Ill.—Hurricane Irene made landfall as a category 1 hurricane near Little Egg Inlet, N.J., Sunday, Aug. 28, around 5:30 a.m. (EST). It then made final landfall as a tropical storm near New York City around 9 a.m. Irene brought heavy rainfall, wind, tornadoes and floods to much of the U.S. East Coast. Toppled trees, flooding and fallen debris also caused hundreds of road closings. Along the coast, about 2.4 million people were evacuated and at least 25 deaths were attributed to Irene.

The National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) recommends consumers be mindful of disreputable contractors following a hurricane. If it is necessary to hire a roofing contractor, consumers should take some time to evaluate potential contractors before any reroofing work begins.

NRCA's website, www.nrca.net, provides information to help homeowners and building owners find professional roofing contractors and get a quality roof system at a fair price.

Building owners can read NRCA's Guidelines for Selecting a Commercial (Low-slope) Roofing Contractor or download NRCA's Roofing Contractor Qualification Statement. Homeowners can read NRCA's F.Y.I. Buying a New Roof and Getting Your Money's Worth or download NRCA's Residential Roofing Contractor Qualification Form. Homeowners also can view NRCA's Guidelines for Selecting a Residential (Steep-slope) Roofing Contractor.

NRCA also provides an online directory of its contractor members. Consumers can search the directory by ZIP code and roof type to find a list of NRCA contractor members. For more information about how to choose or find a professional roofing contractor in your area, access the consumer section of NRCA's website at www.nrca.net/consumer.

NRCA is one of the construction industry's most respected trade associations and the voice and leading authority in the roofing industry for information, education, technology and advocacy. It represents all segments of the roofing industry, including contractors; manufacturers; distributors; architects; consultants; engineers; building owners; and city, state and government agencies.
