Mitchell Airport Receives $105,000 Check from Focus on Energy

On behalf of Milwaukee County and Mitchell Airport (MKE), County Executive Chris Abele accepted a $105,000 rebate check from Focus on Energy at the Airport this morning.

The rebate to Milwaukee County was presented in recognition of the Airport’s recent project to install nearly 4,000 new lamps in the parking garage.  The new energy-efficient fixtures reduce electrical consumption by one-third due to occupancy sensors and automatically turning off lights that are not necessary during daylight hours.

“The next-generation lighting system is more environmentally-friendly while providing better lighting for travelers and reduced energy consumption and maintenance costs,” County Executive Abele said.  “Instead of replacing bulbs every four years, the new lights are projected to last ten years.  We thank Focus on Energy for recognizing the Airport’s efforts to reduce its environmental footprint and operate at a high level of sustainability.”

Work on the project, which supports Milwaukee County’s Green Print initiative, wrapped up earlier this month.  Wisconsin-based Kenall Lighting manufactured the new lighting equipment.

MKE’s parking garage is used by customers choosing Hourly Parking or Daily Parking, which are the closest and most convenient Airport parking options for travelers starting their trip at Milwaukee.  The garage is directly connected to the terminal via enclosed skywalks.  More information about MKE’s Airport parking options are available at mitchellairport.com/parking.

The Focus on Energy rebate is the latest example highlighting that MKE is a leader in Milwaukee County’s efforts to become more sustainable.  Earlier this year, the Airport’s Baggage Claim facility also received a Focus on Energy rebate and became the first building owned by Milwaukee County to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

Mitchell Airport offers nonstop flights to 38 destinations coast-to-coast, and 160 international destinations are available from Milwaukee with just one connection.  MKE is served by Alaska, Air Canada, American, Delta, Frontier, OneJet, Southwest, United, and Volaris.  View the nonstop cities map at www.mitchellairport.com.
