San Diego, Calif. — Oct. 20, 2015 — McKinstry, a national leader in designing, constructing, operating, and managing high-performance buildings, announced the company’s expansion in California with new offices in the Bay Area and San Diego.
McKinstry’s client portfolio now includes California school districts and institutions of higher education. Among its most recent energy projects are efficiency solutions across Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), UCLA, Caltech, and Glendale Community College (GCC). The projects identify and prioritize needed upgrades in aging buildings that yield significant operational savings, while also improving the built environment.
McKinstry has also worked closely with LAUSD and GCC to help meet requirements in securing Proposition 39 funding to complete the energy-improvement measures. In doing so, McKinstry is improving thermal comfort for building occupants and generating local jobs for Californians.

McKinstry has partnered with municipalities, K-12 schools, and college and universities in 16 states west of the Mississippi to build and upgrade facilities that operate efficiently, conserve resources, and maintain occupant comfort. Using an integrated design-build approach, McKinstry works to lower administrative costs, streamline the design process and decrease the likelihood of costly change orders, as compared to traditional delivery methods.
Leading the Bay Area practice is McKinstry regional director Craig Mesenbrink, a registered professional engineer who joins McKinstry with 30 years of experience in engineering, facilities management, and business development. His specialty lies in helping partners approach and implement energy improvement measures.
In his new role as regional director for northern California, Mesenbrink will be responsible for leading and growing the Northern California region for McKinstry.
The company’s San Diego-based Southern California practice is led by Mike Moriarty, who has been with McKinstry since 2009. He brings 20 years of industry experience to the new office, particularly as it relates to energy-improvement and renewable-energy work. He has a long track record of helping schools, colleges, universities, hospitals, commercial, and industrial customers curb utility and operational costs through various energy and renewable services offerings.
