Renovation will help to increase safety and reduce costs.
(St. Louis, MO) – Kirberg Company, one of the Midwest’s largest commercial and residential roofing companies, recently completed a major project at the Library Center, a branch of the Springfield-Greene County Library District located at 4653 S. Campbell Avenue. Their team replaced 724 squares of flat rooftop (approximately 72,414 square feet) with newer, more durable materials that are guaranteed for 20 years. The renovation was expected to take up to eight weeks, but Kirberg worked efficiently to complete the task in only 22 days.
The building’s original roof, constructed in 1995, had been worn down over the years by weather, foot traffic, and heating and air conditioning machinery. While working with library staff to keep noise and distractions to a minimum, Kirberg removed roofing panels and insulation that had been affected by these elements and installed a new Firestone 80 mil TPO Invisiweld Roof, which has thicker membranes designed to resist damage and puncturing. The new roof also features high-density recovery board for added protection and a white-top layer of Thermoplastic PolyOlefin, which is UV-protected to withstand and reflect the sun’s rays to reduce energy costs.

As part of Kirberg’s ongoing commitment to the environment, no chemicals or tars were used for this project, and the team worked closely with library staff to keep noise, dust and other distractions to a minimum. The company was also able to recycle 325 tons of gravel that was removed from the roof by selling it to other companies that will use it for road construction and landscaping.
