Kingspan Energy: Company Completes Sunpower Solar Installation and Energy Efficiency Upgrades for Optics Firm

Stamford, Conn. — Oct. 28, 2015 — Kingspan Energy, a Connecticut-based SunPower commercial partner, is showcasing a unique project that combines multiple energy efficiency upgrades with a high efficiency solar energy solution from SunPower to significantly reduce an existing commercial building’s power load.

The project was completed at the Thornwood, N.Y., facility of Carl Zeiss, a 160-year-old optics company known for its leadership in eyeglass lenses and semiconductors. Zeiss chose Kingspan Energy to integrate energy efficiency measures including LED lighting and solar photovoltaics at the company’s sales, service, and training center. The combined project, along with a roof upgrade that enhanced the insulation value of the building and made it solar ready, has resulted in a 60 percent reduction in energy load.

“This project has been an example of how existing buildings can be enhanced to a high performance level through an integrated envelope, LED lighting system, and solar energy approach by Kingspan Energy,” said Ralph Mannion, president, Kingspan Energy.

The core of the project is a 531-kilowatt solar photovoltaic installation on the facility’s roof that uses the industry’s most efficient solar panels from SunPower. The solar power system is expected to meet 30 percent of the building’s annual energy needs, and is projected to produce more than 598,000 kilowatt-hours of clean electricity each year which is equivalent to taking 87 passenger vehicles off the road.

Founded in 1846, Zeiss is a leader in the optics and optoelectronics industries with operations in 40 countries. The company’s New York solar energy system is representative of a global commitment to sustainability.

Kingspan Energy is an American company using a customized, turnkey approach to make the benefits of solar a reality to commercial and industrial customers. For more information, visit www.kingspanenergy.us.
