Intermatic Launches Surge Protective Device With Consumable Modules

Spring Grove, Ill. – Sept. 28, 2014 – Intermatic, a leader in energy management solutions, announced the release of its new Surge Protective Device with Consumable Modules for light commercial and residential applications. What makes this Surge Protection Device unique is the added feature of three Consumable Modules using TPMOV technology. The Consumable Modules are designed to be easily and safely replaced by the facility personnel or homeowner when protection is compromised.

“The Surge Protective Device with Consumable Modules allows homeowners and small businesses the best of both worlds,” said Intermatic product manager Kim Durkot. “The device combines the trusted safety of hard-wired surge protection with the simplicity of DIY maintenance. When a Consumable Module is compromised, replacing it is as simple as changing a fuse.”

Power and Protection Status LEDs let the end user know when surge protection has been compromised and the Consumable Module needs to be replaced. This helps to insure that surge protection remains viable, which is critical for protecting valuable business or home equipment and systems.

“Power surges can be the ‘silent killers’ for critical equipment and systems,” Durkot said. “The Surge Protective Device with Consumable Modules offers not only peace of mind, but a significant cost savings to many users who won’t have to replace hardwired devices when surge protection is compromised or having to replace an appliance that was left unprotected.”

Durkot noted that because the Surge Protective Device is connected directly to the incoming power source, everything down stream is protected, including some investments that are often overlooked such as high-end recessed lighting systems.

Designed for SPD Type 1 or Type 2 applications in a variety of enclosures, Intermatic’s Surge Protective Device with Consumable Modules is appropriate for residential and light commercial applications, including, but not limited to: home appliances, HVAC, security systems, entertainment systems, high-end interior and exterior lighting, computers/servers, fax machines, copiers, and printers.

The Surge Protective Device with Consumable Modules provides six modes of protection (L1-N, L2-N, L1-G, L2-G, N-G, L1-L2), has a nominal discharge rating (In) between 10 – 20kA, and a short circuit current rating (SCCR) between 10 – 100kA. The Surge Protective Device with Consumable Modules is certified ANSI/UL 1449 3rd Edition and UL-listed.
