Hobbs Brook Management: Company Honored with Build New England Award

Waltham, Mass. — Oct. 19, 2015 — Hobbs Brook Management, a commercial property management and development firm specializing in leasing, construction, and development of Class A office space, announced that it won a merit award in the biennial Build New England Awards program hosted by the Associated General Contractors of Massachusetts (AGCMass).

Hobbs Brook and its team members Commodore Builders and Margulies Perruzzi Architects, as well as subcontractors Blakeslee Steel, Gaston Electric, and Ipswich Bay Glass, were recognized for their work on a new office building at 275 Wyman St. in Waltham, Mass. This building is now occupied by Cimpress, which is a world leader in mass customization and has the well-known brand Vistaprint.

A gala event for the winners was held at the Intercontinental Hotel.

The Build New England Awards program recognizes the concept of teamwork in building tomorrow’s facilities. The project teams are recognized for their collaborative approach to planning, designing, and building facilities that meet the owner's vision and goals and enhance the community where the project is located.

The jury commented: “This highly collaborative effort between the design and construction team required innovative techniques to achieve the project goals. I was impressed that the team employed lean techniques for site delivery, employed design-assist for the building facade, and prefabricated electrical and plumbing systems.”

The award-winning components of the building at 275 Wyman St. embody the spirit of the Build New England awards program. Careful coordination and communication by the entire team, especially during the recent harsh winter, enabled the project to progress smoothly and on time, and enabled Cimpress to meet its occupancy deadline. The project was recognized for having the right team, consistent and stringent coordination, effective communication, a commitment to community stewardship, and the full support of owner Hobbs Brook Management and incoming tenant Cimpress.

The building is Cimpress’ largest office in the U.S. and the head office for Vistaprint’s U.S. operations. It is a new, five-story, 300,000-square-foot Class A office building owned by Hobbs Brook Management, designed by Margulies Perruzzi Architects, and built by Commodore Builders. The building features a full-service cafeteria, a landscaped courtyard, and a 1,025-car parking garage, and is located within a campus setting.

It is targeting LEED certification in accordance with Hobbs Brook’s sustainability initiative and Cimpress’ desire to have an environmentally friendly work environment. The landscaped courtyard provides a seamless connection between the office building and the parking garage, which is extended below grade for direct access into the building from the basement level. It is designed using a unitized metal and glass curtain wall system for the building’s envelope, providing high thermal efficiency and allowing daylight to filter deep into the building’s interior.

The building's interior features include impromptu meeting spaces on each floor to encourage collaboration, a game room, mothering rooms, and a cutting-edge fitness center that includes a room outfitted for spin classes. A library was designed to accommodate silent work space for team members, outside the collaborative environment.
