Extech Introduces 1000A Clamp Meter with Bluetooth for Remote Monitoring via Android App

Nashua, N.H. — March 31, 2015 — Extech Instruments, makers of the best handheld test and measurement tools, introduces the new EX850, a 1000A AC/DC CAT IV clamp meter with new Bluetooth technology and a built-in infrared thermometer.

With Extech’s ExView- app and the new industrial clamp meter, electric industry pr al contractors and plant maintenance professionals can remotely view and display readings from the meter on an Android phone or tablet up to 10m, or 30 feet away.

“Remote viewing on an Android device offers a host of advantages,” said Samuel Ruback, product manager at Extech Instruments. “Listening to customers, we hear stories of job sites with awkward testing situations that can make it difficult to view a meter’s display. Firing up the EX850’s app on a tablet or smartphone tackles these challenges.”

About the EX850: The rugged, new Extech EX850 1000A clamp meter is designed to deliver safety and versatility — without compromising performance or innovation. The EX850’s advanced True RMS meter functions include AC/DC current, voltage, resistance, capacitance, frequency, infrared and contact temperature, diode-test, and continuity check. The fast-responding EX850’s peak hold function captures inrush currents and transients.

The bright 4-digit, 4,000 count backlit display is complemented by several one-button functions including data hold, min/max, and selectable auto- or manual-ranging. The large 1.7-inch (43mm) jaw opening handles conductors up to 750MCM or multiple conductors such as two 500MCM. For quick, point and shoot temperature readings, the patented, non-contact IR thermometer with laser pointer is useful for fast hot-spot detection.

About the ExView App: The new Extech ExView industrial app displays large, easy-to-read values for all of the meter’s main functions. Function indicators highlight which measurement mode is selected on the meter. Additionally, Data Hold and Min/Max functions are also remotely displayed. In addition, the ExView app features a log of recent readings for quick reference, basic trending, and more context.

The app is available now at the Google Play Store app.

Remote Display Advantage: Now, electrical professionals can monitor voltage, current, and other readings at a safe distance from hazardous locations. Additionally, it is easier to perform remote tasks such as powering up equipment from a control panel that is not nearby. For electricians who must show readings to a customer or manager, the remote display makes it easy to leave the clamp meter in place while showing and explaining findings from a safe location.

The EX850 has a CAT IV-600V, CAT III-1000V overvoltage safety rating and is CE approved. The meter comes complete with a CATIV test leads, a 9V battery, Type K temperature probe, and a belt holster.
