DOE: Information Request Targets Solar for Commercial Buildings

Washington, D.C. — June 17, 2015 — In order to promote adoption of photovoltaics and other advanced cost-effective technologies for commercial buildings, the U.S. Department of Energy’s SunShot Initiative and the Better Buildings Alliance (BBA) are focused on overcoming market and informational barriers to implementing solar PV on leased commercial buildings.

To collect more information on this issue, the Energy Department has released a Request for information (RFI) to solicit feedback from industry (particularly building owners and building tenants), academia, research laboratories, government agencies, and other stakeholders on issues related to installing solar for commercial buildings.

Those who have solar or are interested in installing solar are encouraged to provide input, so that the Energy Department can develop tools to meet this market's needs. Responses are due July 27. Learn more here.

The SunShot Initiative is a collaborative national effort launched in 2011 that aggressively drives innovation to make solar energy fully cost-competitive with traditional energy sources before the end of the decade. Through SunShot, the Energy Department supports efforts by private companies, universities, and national laboratories to drive down the cost of solar electricity to $0.06 per kilowatt-hour. SunShot is working to make it faster, easier, and cheaper for Americans to choose solar energy in their daily lives. Learn more here.
