CertainTeed Features Exterior Products on Google 3D Warehouse Website

VALLEY FORGE, Pa. – CertainTeed Corporation is embracing construction project technology, becoming one of the first building materials manufacturers to create an extensive Google SketchUp model library for exterior products and make it available for download from the Google® 3D Warehouse website. Now architects, designers and builders can use a wide range of CertainTeed exterior products to quickly and simply build and modify three-dimensional (3-D) designs. Currently, CertainTeed’s Google 3D Warehouse collection includes virtual product renditions of the complete lines of low-maintenance, high-quality WeatherBoards™ Fiber Cement Siding, CertainTeed® Vinyl and Polymer Shake Siding, Restoration Millwork® exterior trim and CertaWrap™ Weather Resistant Barrier.

“We are constantly evaluating ways to save our customers time and add value to their specifying, modeling and design experience,” says Matt Gibson, contractor program manager for CertainTeed Siding. “By creating a 3-D model image library accessible for use within Google SketchUp, products can be selected and applied in seconds, or easily imported to other CAD modeling programs.”

An industry-leading design tool, Google SketchUp is a robust, yet easy-to-use software developed to provide quick 3-D imagery for conceptual stages of design. The Google 3D Warehouse is a repository of 3-D building objects that expedites the design process. CertainTeed’s exterior product models offer building professionals the ability to visualize designs in 3-D, making it easier to determine the best configurations for any application. It can also be used for detail drawings.

The CertainTeed Google 3D Warehouse collection takes advantage of Igloo Studios’ Product Connect technology, including all necessary product technical information such as measurements, composition, color options as well as primary, secondary and tertiary usage suggestions. Designers can also place SketchUp models into Google® Earth to show a building’s physical presence on site, conduct light and shadow studies, generate 3-D fly-around animations and more. In addition, users may access a series of short video tutorials to help them get started with Certainteed’s products in Google SketchUp. Plans are underway to include collections from the CertainTeed fence, decking and railing product lines.
