BOMI International: Organization Celebrates 45th Anniversary with Release of New High-Performance Sustainable Buildings course, 'HP Practices'
Annapolis, Md. — April 20, 2015 — On the 45th anniversary of BOMI International’s founding, president and CEO Jeffrey Horn announced the official release of the second of three courses in the organization's comprehensive High-Performance (HP) Program, titled "High-Performance Sustainable Building Practices (HP Practices)."
“We are excited to unveil this second course in our HP Program. Our first course, 'HP Principles,' defined sustainability and addressed the fundamentals of building performance. Now, 'HP Practices' focuses on how to economically reach your sustainability goals,” Horn said. “Our distinguished subject matter experts have, once again, developed a course that is unrivaled in its depth and immediate applicability to our industry.”
Meanwhile, at BOMI International headquarters in Annapolis, staff gathered April 20 to celebrate the company’s 45th “birthday.”
“Today marks a significant milestone in BOMI International’s long and distinguished history as the independent institute for property and facility management education,” said Board Chairman Greg Grainger. “The first Earth Day was initiated two days after our founding, and using resources wisely has been a key component of our offerings ever since — now culminating in our HP Program, which grows again today.”
Developed in conjunction with BOMA Georgia, the latest HP course was designed to be both ancillary to the first course, "High-Performance Sustainable Building Principles," while simultaneously serving as its own entity that can be taken without any prerequisites or prior experience. Upon completion of "HP Practices," building personnel will be equipped with the knowledge necessary to:
• increase energy savings and lower operating costs
• develop a customized sustainability plan
• apply newly learned benchmarking concepts
Lead subject matter expert and contributing author Vivian Loftness, whose work in the field of environmental design has influenced both national policy and building projects, said, “BOMI International’s 'High-Performance Sustainable Building Practices' course offers deep insights into immediate actions that the building owner and manager community can undertake to raise the value of their properties with immediate or near-term payback. The breadth of this sustainability course, introducing sustainability improvements for each building system in turn, and culminating in management and finance practices, will be invaluable to the building community.”
Industry professionals of all levels are invited to participate in "HP Practices." Those who successfully complete this course will earn credit for one of three courses required to earn BOMI International’s new High-Performance Certificate. Professionals who hold a Real Property Administrator (RPA) or Facilities Management Administrator (FMA) Designation may apply the HP Practices course toward earning a new enhanced RPA|HP or FMA|HP Designation.
