Acrylic Roof Coatings and Energy Efficiency

Mule-Hide Products Co. has added two new base coats – A-300 Base and A-300 Base TPO – to its line of professional-grade acrylic coatings. Both provide a well-bonded surface for the A-300 Finish coat, helping contractors deliver lasting restorations and repairs that add years to the lives of existing roofs while enhancing their energy efficiency.

A-300 Base can be applied to a wide variety of substrates, including metal, asphaltic built-up roofing (BUR), modified bitumen, EPDM, PVC, Hypalon, polyurethane foam and concrete. A-300 Base TPO is intended for use with weathered (minimum of four years) TPO roof systems.

These new base coatings deliver exceptional durability, flexibility and resistance to the elements. A high degree of rubber-like elasticity allows the coatings to remain flexible in low-temperature environments, accommodate wide swings in temperature, and withstand significant building movement from settling and seismic action without cracking or blistering. Superior resistance to ultraviolet (UV) light enables them to provide long-lasting performance in even the sunniest locations.

A-300 Base and A-300 Base TPO can be applied with a brush, roller or airless spray rig. Both are tinted for easy identification between base- and top-coated areas; A-300 Base is gray and A-300 Base TPO is light blue.

The base coatings must be top-coated with A-300 Finish. The finish coating is offered in Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC®)-rated and ENERGY STAR®-listed options that help building owners reduce energy consumption and costs by keeping temperatures inside buildings lower and improving the efficiency of rooftop air-conditioning units.

Both new products are sold in 5-gallon pails, 55-gallon drums and 275-gallon totes.

The Mule-Hide Products line of acrylic coatings includes everything contractors need to deliver durable, weathertight, low-maintenance, energy-efficiency-enhancing repairs and restorations that significantly delay the day when costly and disruptive tear-offs are needed. In addition to the new base coats and A-300 Finish, it includes 115 Cleaner, A-125 Metal Roof Primer, A-200 Flashing Grade sealant, A-301 Skylight Finish, A-320 Finish and A-400-W Masonry Wall Coating.
