Piping Epoxy Targets Fire Suppression

CuraFlo, a provider of pipe restoration services is pleased to announce that its proprietary CuraPoxy FS epoxy lining has received a listing (PMG- 1491) from the International Code Council’s ICC Evaluation Service, LLC (ICC-ES) for Fire Suppression. This listing makes CuraPoxy FS the first epoxy product in North America to meet and surpass requirements established by the ICC for lining existing fire piping systems in all residential and commercial applications.

The ICC-ES PMG listing verifies that CuraPoxy FS meets the requirements of the country’s leading plumbing and mechanical codes and applicable standards. Products listed under the ICC-ES PMG program undergo evaluation based on requirements in all relevant codes. CuraPoxy FS complies with the 2018 and 2015 International Fire Code (IFC), IC-ES LC1043-2018, ANSI/AWWA C210-2015 and ASTM F2831-2018.

To comply with the International Fire Code, testing included the severe Fire Test in UL 852 where lined pipe fitted with sprinkler heads was exposed to temperatures exceeding 1,600 o F. The lining was intact after the testing with no observations of cracking, flaking or other deformation of the lining material, and no fragments from the CuraPoxy FS were determined to have negatively impacted sprinkler flow. Additionally, no fragments were found inside any sprinkler used in testing. As part of its testing process, ICC-ES also thoroughly examined CuraFlo’s product information, test reports, calculations, quality control methods and other factors in order to ensure that CuraPoxy FS is code-compliant. CuraPoxy FS has also been approved by the City of Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety and is compliant with the Los Angeles Plumbing Code.

CuraFlo’s Engineered Flow Lining System utilizes innovative technologies and time- tested proprietary processes to restore copper, galvanized steel, lead and cast iron pipes. This process restores pipes from the inside by lining them with an odorless, tasteless and completely safe epoxy, creating a seamless, sanitary and permanent protective barrier on the interior of the pipes. CuraFlo’s process is designed to minimize demolition and virtually eliminate tenant disruption—all at a fraction of the time and cost of repiping.

The CuraPoxy FS listing underscores CuraFlo’s technical industry leadership and is a derivative of the company’s other leading epoxy linings. CuraFlo offers the broadest suite of patented and certified epoxy linings to fit every need for pipe restoration, including fast return to service, fire suppression, long lengths of pipe, and high-water temperature applications. Additionally, CuraFlo is the only epoxy lining company that manufactures all of its internal pipe epoxy linings in an ISO 9001:2008 certified manufacturing facility. This ensures the highest product quality and results in epoxy linings that meet or exceed the stringent purity requirements on products intended for contact with drinking water. They are solvent-free, 100% solid, high-build linings that allow for fast restoration of water service and are formulated for broad-range

corrosion protection. Additional benefits include:

  • Safe to use in hot and cold potable water systems;
  • Approved for use in pipes where the water temperature can spike up to 180 ° F (Commercial Hot rating);
  • Industry-leading five-hour cure times, which means, if necessary, water service can be returned the same day.

“We are extremely pleased that CuraPoxy FS is now officially recognized under the ICC’s rigorous program,” said Brian LeMaire, Founder of CuraFlo. “Plumbing industry licensing and oversight bodies, architects, engineers, contractors and building officials rely on ICC-ES PMG listings as third-party verifications of product and process quality. This underscores CuraFlo’s mission to design each of our water infrastructure rehabilitation products and processes with the industry’s highest level of engineering and manufacturing expertise.”

The ICC-ES PMG program is designed to build upon ICC-ES’s nearly 80 years of experience in evaluating building products for code compliance. Accredited by the American National Standards Institute, the program operates under ISO/IEC Guide 65, “General Requirements for Bodies Operating Product Certification Systems.”
