The UW Health Sustainability Program is excited to announce that UW Health at The American Center has earned LEED Gold (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC)—the highest certified project under “LEED for Building Design and Construction: Healthcare” in the state of Wisconsin. This achievement also ranks The American Center as one of 17 in the world, and one of 10 in the United States for LEED Gold certification in the healthcare category.
The categories rated by the USGBC include:
“This certification not only serves as a seal of approval on our sustainable practices, it further demonstrates our commitment to the health and wellbeing of patients, visitors, staff, faculty and our community,” says John Sheehan, president of UW Health at The American Center. "Achieving this prestigious honor would not have been possible without the dedication of numerous staff and partners. UW Health at The American Center continues to embody the sustainable principles used in the design and construction of the building through our daily operations and maintenance, because to us it is more than just a building, it is a philosophy for UW Health.”
