KAI: Texas Facility Achieves LEED Silver Designation
KAI Texas is proud to announce that the new Tarrant County Precinct 1 Administration Building in Fort Worth, Texas, has achieved a LEED Silver designation from the U.S. Green Building Council. KAI Texas provided architectural, MEP engineering design, and project management for the new administration building, and renovation/expansion of the county’s road crew shops.
Built in the 1980s, the Precinct 1 Administration Building and its maintenance facility were in need of updates to comply with current workplace safety rules. While precinct representatives initially just wanted to improve and modernize the existing facilities, officials decided to completely replace the administration building due to foundation issues and to better serve the citizens of Tarrant County.
Located in Fort Worth, Texas, and boasting of a population upwards of 1.8 million, Tarrant County is one of the fastest growing counties in the country. Today, the county is comprised of 41 incorporated cities, with Fort Worth as the county seat, and employs approximately 4,000 government staff members.
Construction on the $5 million project was completed in Nov. 2016. Sustainability features of the new facility include xeriscaping (landscaping that requires little or no irrigation), rainwater harvesting and passive solar design (specifying windows, walls, floors, roofs and exterior building elements and landscaping that distribute solar heat in the winter and reflect solar heat in the summer).
"The design concept for the new facility was based on Texas Hill Country aesthetic, with the new administration building serving as the ranch house," said KAI Texas President and COO Darren James.
