enVerid: Technology Solves Air Pollution Challenges for Business School in China

enVerid Systems Inc., a company in energy savings and indoor air quality equipment for commercial and educational buildings, today announced that the Shanghai-based China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) has achieved superior indoor air quality per the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards, and 80 percent reduction in the utilization of outside air, through the installation of enVerid HLR (HVAC Load Reduction) modules in its state-of-the-art lecture theater.

enVerid’s HLR technology intelligently captures and cleans indoor air of contaminants, including carbon dioxide (CO2), formaldehyde, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and particulate matter (PM2.5), ensuring superior indoor air quality to help improve students’ cognitive performance, health and comfort. HLR uses a patented air treatment and recycling system for HVAC systems, enabling a reduction in the amount of outside air required to ventilate a building, which also saves on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) costs. With outdoor air pollution up by 8 percent since 2011 according to the World Health Organization, this is of high importance especially in countries like China, where air pollution has reached critical levels.

“Before installing the enVerid HLR technology, large amounts of outside air were being brought in to help reduce indoor CO2 levels while using indoor air purifiers to remove the PM2.5,” said Evan Liu, CEIBS engineering department manager. “Now with enVerid HLR modules in place, we can do this more efficiently, cost effectively and without drawing in so much polluted outside air.”

Traditionally, commercial buildings replace all of their indoor air with outside air every one to two hours to prevent high concentrations of indoor pollutants like CO2, formaldehyde, and VOCs. But, outside air is not always clean air, especially for buildings located in busy, high-traffic city centers like Shanghai where bringing in air can introduce harmful pollutants like PM2.5. With HLR technology, CEIBS was able to reduce PM2.5indoors by 87 percent and achieve healthy levels in comparison with the outdoor air quality.

“Superior indoor air quality is critical for our clients like CEIBS in China that are faced with the challenge of increasingly high levels of outside air pollution,” said Udi Meirav, enVerid CEO. “We are pleased to provide CEIBS with our innovative HLR technology to boost indoor air quality to support the health and continued success of their students.”

enVerid has been deploying HLR modules for five years, and the technology recently won the prestigious R&D100 Award and has been endorsed by the U.S. Department of Energy. The solution is also compliant to the standards for ventilation defined by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).

“CEIBS is devoted to cultivating the future business leaders of the world and we do our best to provide a first-rate teaching environment for our students,” said Fengxiang Cheng CEIBS operations department manage. “With enVerid’s HLR, we have achieved healthier indoor air and energy savings, and have set an example for our students on the importance of social responsibility and sustainable development.”
