ESD Acquires Positivenergy Practice

ESD (Environmental Systems Design, Inc.), a designer of high-performance buildings, mission critical facilities, workplaces, and health, science and education environments, has expanded its project portfolio and its talent by acquiring and integrating PositivEnergy Practice (PEP) and all of its operations into the company.

About a dozen employees — primarily electrical engineers and mechanical engineers — from the firm started by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture (AS+GG) transitioned recently into ESD’s High Performance Building group, led by Mehdi Jalayerian, an executive vice president at ESD. They are available to contribute to other ESD areas as needs arise. PEP was formed based on a commitment to environmentally responsible design for new and existing buildings.

“This integration meshes perfectly with ESD’s mission of Improving Society Through the Built Environment and will strengthen and enhance our long relationship with AS+GG to deliver integrated services throughout the global markets,” said Mr. Jalayerian.

“AS+GG has a long-standing relationship with ESD and highly values its team and experience,” said Robert Forest, AS+GG partner. “ESD has worked with AS+GG on many projects, including Kingdom Tower in Jeddah, Masdar Headquarters in Abu Dhabi, FKI Tower in Seoul, along with Shakespeare Theater and Steppenwolf Theater in Chicago.”

According to ESD CEO Raj Gupta, “This is a great growth opportunity for ESD and exciting times for our company overall.”
