Transwestern: Company Recognized by EPA with ENERGY STAR Award

Houston — Transwestern’s Houston headquarters recently announced that it has been recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with a 2016 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award for its continued leadership in sustainability practices and reducing overall energy consumption at its managed properties.

Transwestern, an ENERGY STAR partner since 2002, was previously recognized in 2004 and 2005 as an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year and in 2006 through 2015 as a Sustained Excellence recipient — the first third-party commercial real estate services provider to achieve both designations.

“It is a special honor to be recognized by the EPA for 13 consecutive years,” said Larry P. Heard, Transwestern CEO. “Transwestern is dedicated to delivering a higher level of service to our clients, which includes positively impacting the operation of our assets under management. Both the financial benefits enjoyed by our clients and the stewardship recognition that accompanies this award are most appreciated.”

Having benchmarked more than 75.8 million square feet, Transwestern has an ENERGY STAR average portfolio rating of 75 and has reduced total site energy consumption across its managed portfolio by 14.6 billion kBtu. Additionally, Transwestern’s sustainability efforts have saved more than 59.8 million gallons of water and reduced CO2 emissions by more than 661 million pounds.

Transwestern’s multifaceted approach to sustainability and energy conservation includes a team of sustainability experts who perform services including ENERGY STAR benchmarking, energy audits, energy consulting, building commissioning, LEED certification, and more.

Transwestern launched an extensive expansion of its sustainability line of business in 2015, including offering new services, such as PACE Financing and energy procurement, in-depth training, and assistance in formulating the WELL Building Standard.

Additionally, the firm improved its proprietary DROP water measurement program and partnered with the Department of Energy to develop the Asset Rating Tool that will drive improved energy efficiency in buildings.

The 2016 Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Awards are given to a variety of organizations to recognize their contributions to reducing harmful carbon pollution through superior energy efficiency efforts. These awards recognize ongoing leadership across the ENERGY STAR program, including energy-efficient products, services, new homes, and buildings in the commercial, industrial, and public sectors.
