LG Electronics: Company Opens New Headquarters Near Atlanta to Boost Air Conditioning Systems Business

LG Applications Engineer Ed Ferrier provided a tour of the Engineering Control Lab at the grand opening of LG Electronics USA’s new 40,000-square-foot Air Conditioning Systems Headquarters. The event was held Wednesday in suburban Atlanta.

Alpharetta, Ga. — Nov. 11, 2015 — Continuing its big push in variable refrigerant flow (VRF) products and other areas, LG Electronics USA cut the ribbon this week on its new 40,000-square-foot Air Conditioning Systems Headquarters in suburban Atlanta.

The facility aims to support LG’s AC business and to educate engineers, contractors, and technicians with a hands-on approach to its HVAC technologies.

Alpharetta, a northern suburb that has about 57,000 people and 3,600 businesses, has been home to the LG air conditioning business since 2006, making it a natural choice for the expansion. As the LG customer base continues to grow, a well-equipped location for training, operations, and engineering became necessary in order to streamline all parts of the business and further develop and showcase LG’s HVAC technology, the company said.

On hand for Wednesday’s grand opening was William Cho, president and CEO, LG Electronics USA, who said the new headquarters symbolizes the company’s commitment to forward-thinking technology, continuous innovation, and elevated education.

Three key parts of the new building are aimed at bringing together engineers, contractors, and technicians under one roof:

Learning Academy: This facility builds on the ongoing success of the LG Excellence Contractor Program, providing an additional hub for the program’s series of formal, hands-on training sessions for contractors. In addition, LG provides project partnership with contractors at every step to ensure successful, efficient installation.

Engineering Control Lab: The lab wills serve as an advanced, hands-on facility for LG engineers to develop new technologies, gain understanding of each product’s details, and conduct final testing on products before they enter the market. LG engineers can also learn how to best create integrated systems that serve a building as efficiently as possible.

Business Innovation Center: A global showcase for LG commercial solutions, the center will offer a central location for customers to interact with the company’s B2B products, including its flagship VH7B series, considered the pinnacle of video wall digital signage solutions.

In his remarks at the ribbon-cutting, Kevin McNamara, senior vice president, sales and operations, for LG Electronics USA’s air conditioning systems business, said the company’s goal is to fundamentally change the HVAC industry with VRF. In a brief interview afterwards, Lorie Quillin-Bell, director, Go-to-Market, said VRF lowers the total cost of ownership. Its specific advantages, she said, include energy savings, zone control, flexibility in design, and easier installation and maintenance. VRF technology is common in Asia and Europe but still relatively new in the United States, where it is growing rapidly, she said.

LG Electronics USA, Inc., based in Englewood Cliffs, N.J., is the North American subsidiary of LG Electronics Inc., a $56 billion global force and technology leader in consumer electronics, mobile communications, home appliances, and air solutions.
