Lugoff, S.C. — Oct. 13, 2015 — INVISTA, one of the world’s largest producers of polymers and fibers, is beginning to see the benefits of its now fully operational natural gas boilers at its nylon fiber manufacturing site near Camden, S.C.
As a result of the $30 million project, INVISTA Camden is seeing a significant reduction in air emissions and anticipates a reduction in more than 50,000 tons per year of carbon dioxide. That is equivalent to removing more than 9,500 passenger vehicles from the road, according to EPA.gov.
In addition, INVISTA Camden expects a reduction in more than 1,250 tons per year of other air emissions.
“This project signifies INVISTA’s continuing commitment to environmental excellence,” said Juan Flores, site manager at the Camden plant. “In addition to significantly reducing air emissions, we expect the new boiler system to also increase the efficiency of Camden’s power operation.
“These types of continuous improvements play a big role in the quality and sustainability of our ANTRON and STAINMASTER carpet fibers, as well as other materials made on site.”
The Camden site began operations in 1950 and produces nylon polymer and fiber for products such as STAINMASTER carpet, ANTRON carpet fiber, and fiber used in the automotive industry.
