Direct Energy Business: Natural Gas Can Be Best Choice To Replace No. 6 Heating Oil in NYC

Woodbridge, N.J. — June 19, 2015 — The coming end to the use of No. 6 heating oil is an important positive step forward for improving the air quality of New York City. The early success of the phase-out efforts has driven a nearly 70 percent reduction in sulfur dioxide levels and the city’s cleanest air quality in over 50 years.

For building owners, of course, making the transition poses significant challenges since about 30 percent of the operational costs for buildings are energy related. As a result, despite the upcoming July 1 deadline approaching for New York City building owners to convert from No. 6 heating oil to a cleaner fuel source, many superintendents have yet to complete the transition.

Read more here about why natural gas can be the best choice to comply with the new rules.

Direct Energy Business is the electricity and gas provider for business customers in the Con Edison territory in New York. Based in Woodbridge, N.J., the full-service energy supplier has assisted more than 100 buildings in New York City in making the low-cost, low-risk conversion to natural gas.
