Bedford Reinforced Plastics Marks 40 Years

Bedford, Pa. — Bedford Reinforced Plastics, a leading manufacturer of pultruded and molded fiberglass-reinforced polymer (FRP) structural materials, is celebrating its 40th year in business.

The Stahl family started the company in 1974 with a small barn, three pultrusion machines, and about a dozen employees, primarily manufacturing products for the agricultural market. Since then, Bedford has expanded its line of high-performance structural fiberglass products to serve a wide range of applications and markets.

Today, Bedford has more than 200 full-time employees and 200,000-plus square feet of fiberglass pultrusion manufacturing space, including a state-of-the-art fabrication center.

Bedford’s current product line include PROForms pultruded FRP structural shapes, PROGrate pultruded FRP grating, PROGrid molded FRP grating, and PROPlate FRP flat sheet. Custom profiles, caged ladders, and complete assemblies including catwalks, platforms, stairs, and handrails are also available.

“We’ve come a long way in the past 40 years, and we’re truly grateful to all the employees and customers who have made it possible for us to reach this milestone,” acknowledges Bedford General Manager Glenn Smith. “We’ve overcome challenges and we’ve achieved successes because of three things: our people, our customer service, and our focus on efficient processes.”

In addition to the company’s headquarters and manufacturing facilities in Bedford, Pa., Bedford Reinforced Plastics also has distribution locations in Houston; Fort Dodge, Iowa; Tavares, Fla.; and Salt Lake City, Utah. The company is still privately owned and operated by the Stahl family.

Bedford produces building material made from fiberglass-reinforced plastics. This material is strong, lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and dimensionally stable, offering an alternative to traditional building materials such as wood, steel, and aluminum.

Bedford materials are used in a wide range of applications worldwide, both on land and in harsh ocean environments. To learn more, visit http://bedfordreinforced.com
