GAF Garden Roof Project Wins RoofPoint Excellence in Design Award

Veterans Administration American Lake Project Wins For

Public Sector Leadership

Wayne, NJ  — GAF, North America’s largest roofing manufacturer, is pleased to announce its involvement with the Veterans Administration American Lake Project, which received the RoofPoint™ Excellence in Design Award honorable mention for Public Sector Leadership. The project was among 100 entries for this year’s awards and was selected for demonstrating significant leadership in advancing sustainable roofing practices and awareness for public sector facilities.

The Lakewood, WA project included 26,000 square feet of GAF’s GardenScapes™ Garden Roof System across 12 separate roof areas, which included 80,000 locally grown and native sedum plants. GardenScapes™ protects the roof membrane, increases longevity, reduces water run-off, and beautifies the building’s aesthetic. Also installed was 50,000 square feet of EverGuard® 80 mil white TPO. Engineered to provide superior long-term performance and enhanced durability, EverGuard® TPO is strong, reflective, and suitable for use in all types of single-ply systems.

The Veterans Administration American Lake Project is currently seeking LEED® Gold certification.

The 2012 RoofPoint™ Excellence in Design Award recognizes the best in design and installation of long-lasting, energy-efficient, environmentally friendly roof systems. Annual award winners are selected from projects that best exemplify the mission and meet the criteria of RoofPoint™.

RoofPoint™ is a voluntary, consensus-based green rating system developed by the Center for Environmental Innovation in Roofing to provide a means for building owners and designers to select nonresidential roof systems based on long-term energy and environmental benefits. RoofPoint™ serves as a simple, transparent, and professional measure to validate that new and replacement roof systems are designed, installed, and maintained in accordance with the best sustainable practices available today.
