Program Description:

Green Speak: Communicating a Product's Environmental Story

Do you want to bolster your understanding of LEED credits related to products and materials?
Do you want to better understand what is required for a LEED submittal and what really matters?
Do you ever wonder if a ‘Green’ sales pitch of a given product is legitimate?
Are you looking to pursue a LEED professional credential?
Join the USGBC - Illinois Chapter for a half-day program on the LEED credits and environmental considerations related specifically to building materials. (3.5 GBCI CE hours - Materials Category)

There are many characteristics of a product that contribute to its overall ‘greenness’.  And whether you are specifying, installing, or marketing, this workshop will provide a comprehensive understanding of green products by investigating the full spectrum of these principles and impacts.  The session will begin with an introduction to the LEED Rating System, and advance to an in depth discussion of the credits and environmental considerations related specifically to building materials.  This will lay the foundation for audience participation in an interactive session, allowing participants to tie the various concepts together while honing their ‘green pitch’.  Whether a product rep, manufacturer, or designer you will leave with the tools to clearly and articulate an Environmental story.

At the end of this program, attendees will be able to:

Accurately represent the environmental characteristics of products
Promote the environmental benefits of a product
Determine a product’s contribution to LEED credits
Provide acceptable documentation for LEED submissions
Write specifications for materials contributing to LEED credits
Evaluate the marketing claims of a product
