USGBC Event: Enhancing Sustainable Landscaping through Water Harvesting

Enhancing Sustainable Landscaping through Water Harvesting hosted by the USGBC - Illinois Chapter!

Date: 11 Oct 2011
Time: 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM
Location: Willowbrook Middle School, 6605 Prairie Hill Road, South Beloit, IL 61080

Program Description:

Join the USGBC - Illinois Chapter's, Rockford/Northern Illinois Branch for Enhancing Sustainable Landscaping through Water Harvesting.

Every site design should include landscaping that minimizes the need for irrigation, but that doesn't mean that plants and turf requiring supplemental watering need to be excluded entirely. The objective is to eliminate or greatly reduce the use of municipal water for landscaping.

Sustainable irrigation design, using on-site treated water (water harvesting), is the practical solution. An added benefit of harvesting is that it also supports stormwater detention by retaining and reusing rainwater that would otherwise flow off site to streams and rivers or require municipal treatment. This program will discuss practical approaches to using water harvested from on-site sources like rainwater, stormwater and greywater to irrigate landscaping. The discussion will follow the water treatment from capture, to pre-treatment, to storage options, to irrigation system design and application approaches.

Actual case studies will be shared.
