The Security Industry Association (SIA) has issued a voluntary standard that details the steps to report events from premises equipment to a central station using internet protocol (IP).

The standard, ANSI/SIA DC-09-2007: SIA Digital Communication Standard — Internet Protocol Event Reporting, is intended for use by manufacturers of control panels and central station receivers to ensure equipment compatibility.

It also affects security system installers, specifiers, end users — central stations — and local authorities dealing with compatibility issues.
More than a dozen manufacturers participated in the standard’s development. The standard can be purchased from SIA.
