High winds caused the roof dome to collapse at an under-construction facility at Palm Beach State College in Florida that was set to house the premier of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s virtual golf league, TGL. According to Playing Through, the white air-supported dome actually collapsed due to a power failure on the site. Crews then deflated the rest of the roof to mitigate any further damage. There was no damage to the technology inside the facility and no one was injured.
According to the Palm Beach Post, it’s not clear yet whether the facility will be repaired in time for the planned inauguration of the new league, the TGL, which includes a mix of in-person and virtual golf, and is scheduled for January.
The SoFi Center is planned to be a 250,000-square-foot facility and will play host to six TGL teams. The facility can house as many as 1,600 people for matches.
