New Roofs Get YMCA of the Treasure Coast Out of a “Tough Spot”

A hail and wind storm severely damaged two roofs of the YMCA’s main Treasure Coast facilities -the Richard C. Geisinger Sr. Branch- and its SportsWorld program center in Stuart. The two YMCA of the Treasure Coast facilities in Stuart, Fla., have received new roofs, and repairing the nearly 40-year-old roofs on the Geisinger Branch was not a viable option. A complete tear-off and replacement was needed, while the SportsWorld roof was leaking in numerous places and required significant repairs.
“They needed a lot of help,” said VCGFL President and CEO Stephen Shanton, referring to both the amount of work that needed to be done and how it would be paid for. “They were in a really bad situation.”
VCGFL and Mule-Hide Products stepped up, ensuring that the YMCA of the Treasure Coast could continue serving the 5,000 adults and children who visit the facilities each year for sports and recreational activities, preschool, after-school care, and summer camps. VCGFL and Mule-Hide Products combined to cover 82 percent of cost of repairing the SportsWorld facility, with VCGFL providing labor and materials and Mule-Hide Products contributing materials.
For the work at the SportsWorld location alone, VCGFL dedicated a crew of 15 contractors, a crew leader and two managers for two weeks.
More than 500,000 square feet of new roofing was installed on the Geisinger Branch, including 60-mil TPO from Mule-Hide Products with a 20-year premium system warranty, the new silicone roof coating system from Mule-Hide Products with a 20-year premium system warranty, and 1.5-inch standing seam metal from Englert Inc. At the SportsWorld facility, crews recoated the existing 450,000-square-foot metal roof with the silicone roof coating system from Mule-Hide Products with a 50-year material limited warranty.
VCGFL also completed other interior and exterior post-storm repair work on the Geisinger Branch, including replacing three windows, repairing minor interior water leaks, replacing four large HVAC units, and repairing and painting more than 20,000 square feet of Kynar Painted Metal Siding.
“We are extremely honored and happy that Venture Construction Group of Florida and Mule-Hide Products came to our aid when we needed it most,” said John M. Lass, president and CEO of the YMCA of the Treasure Coast. “They made sure that the job was done with integrity and quality, and the Venture Construction Group of Florida crew even took the time to have some fun and amuse the children attending our facilities.”
