The Consumer Product Safety Commission, acting on dozens of reports of finger amputations and crushing injuries, is recalling Generac and DR 6500 Watt and 8000 Watt portable generators.

When the generator is moved, the handle can come unlocked and pinch fingers against the unit, causing injury and amputation. There have been 37 reports of injuries so far, 24 resulting in finger amputations.

Facility managers should check the CPSC’s recall page for a list of model numbers being recalled. The unit number is identified on the front of the product. The generators being recalled were sold between July 2021 and November 2022.

Facility managers should immediately stop using the generators and contact Generac for a free repair kit that includes a set of spacers to move the handle away from the frame, eliminating the pinch point.
