Institutional and commercial facilities can plan all they want for emergencies, and they should. But managers should be prepared for the fact that in the end, key facility systems seem to do whatever they want — sometimes twice.
Consider the case of Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, which for the second time this season recently experienced a power outage. This time it happened in the 12th inning of a game and left the stadium in the dark for about 20 minutes, according to The Los Angeles Times.
A circuit outage on the line supplying power to the stadium malfunctioned, according to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. Power was restored within seconds, and some LED lights came back on. But maintenance and engineering personnel then had to reset certain equipment, such as the stadium’s high-powered lights.
The previous outage at the stadium occurred on July 30, when the primary power supply gave out, delaying a game 21 minutes.
