Most facility managers have mundane goals for their restrooms: Keep them clean, keep paper towels, soap, and toilet paper stocked, and make sure occupants are happy with their restroom experience.
But what if you’re a facility manager who wants more? What if you’re driven by a relentless ambition to be the absolute paragon of your profession in all aspects, even restrooms? What if you want your facility to have America’s Best Restroom?
Yes, America’s Best Restroom is a thing, and the honor was recently bestowed upon a restroom at a service station in Utah near the Salt Lake City International Airport, according to CNN.
The restroom was recognized for its “murals of snow-covered mountains and blue sky, soothing earth tones, and gleaming fixtures.” Some of the other 2024 nominees included restrooms at Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium and Lambeau Field.
America’s Best Restroom is a contest sponsored by the cleaning and service company Cintas, and each year the contest takes nominations, and then voting is open to the general public.
Last year’s winner were the newly constructed restrooms at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.
