Green Seal-Certified Paints Now Qualify Toward LEED Credits
The LEED Low-Emitting Materials credit rewards green building project teams for selecting products that reduce concentrations of volatile organic compound. May 15, 2023
Green Seal-certified paints and coatings now qualify toward points for multiple LEED credits. In addition to meeting requirements for the LEED Low-Emitting Materials credit, Green Seal-certified paints and coatings now also are designated by the U.S. Green Building Council to meet requirements for the LEED v4.1 Material Ingredient Optimization credit, making Green Seal’s certification standard one of a select few to achieve this recognition.
Additionally, Green Seal’s partnership with the Health Product Declaration Collaborative means that certified paints and coatings can also choose to qualify toward the LEED v4.0/4.1 Material Ingredient Reporting credit, making the Green Seal certification mark a simple way to identify paints and coatings that contribute to multiple LEED points.
Green Seal-certified paints and coatings also are also compliant with WELL v.1 and Fitwel standards and qualify to display Amazon’s Climate Pledge Friendly badge.
Green Seal-certified paints and coatings that comply with both the LEED Low-Emitting Materials credit requirements and the LEED Material Ingredient Optimization credit requirements include:
- Alora Paints Matte Finish and Satin Finish Interior Paints
- Benjamin Moore Eco Spec Paints
- Bona Supercourt Optum
- Hillyard Star Seal
- Hillyard Icon Gym Finish
The LEED Low-Emitting Materials credit rewards green building project teams for selecting products that reduce concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Green Seal-certified interior paints and coatings automatically qualify toward this credit.
The LEED Material Ingredient Optimization credit rewards green building project teams for selecting products that eliminate hazardous ingredients and minimize impacts on human health and the environment. Green Seal-certified paints and coatings that pass an additional screen for GHS reproductive toxins qualify for points toward the LEED Material Ingredient Optimization credit.
