Find Outsourced Service Providers Long on Green

  February 5, 2010

When selecting outsourced service providers to support your organization's green initiatives, it pays to do a little more homework up front. These days it seems everyone is providing "green" services, so facility executives will have to take some time to really suss out which service providers are going to be able to deliver.

One of the first things to consider is how long the service provider has been providing green services. Is it one of their hallmarks or are they jumping on the green bandwagon? Try to find those that have a few years of experience under their belts.

Internal expertise is also important since can be accessed at any time. But be specific on how you want that applied. In the contract with the provider, spell out the services that you want.

Also, don't just take a provider at their word; get proof of exactly what they have done. Ask if there are existing procedures that will be applied to the building and then ask for the results of those procedures when they were applied to a similar portfolio of buildings.
