Manufacturer Bissel is recalling its Cordless Multi-surface Wet Dry vacuums due to an issue with the vacuum’s battery pack. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall notice, the battery pack can overheat and smoke, posing a fire hazard. The recall is for Models 2551, 2551W, and 25519.
The recall affects about 61,000 vacuums sold in the US and Canada. Facility managers should immediately stop using the vacuums, and contact Bissell at its recall website for a free battery pack replacement. Facility managers can either take the vacuum to a Bissel authorized service center or schedule a free onsite repair.
There have been 66 reports of the vacuum smoking or emitting a burning odor, and five reports of the battery pack catching on fire. Three of these incidents resulted in property damage, and one involved a burn injury.
