Maintenance and engineering managers are well aware that department technicians performing their daily tasks — from roof repair to electrical work to snow removal — face safety risks that include slips and falls and electrocution. Occasionally, there is a reminder that hazards in facilities also include those related to construction and renovation projects.

A newly obtained incident report details the recent death of a construction worker at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala, Florida, according to WJCB.

The 29-year-old man fell from scaffolding at a new hotel under construction at the center, according to the report. Construction is underway at the center for a new event center and shopping plaza.

The site supervisor says the man was moving from one tier of the scaffolding to the next and had to detach his safety harness. A wooden board shifted under him, causing him to fall about 40 feet onto the concrete foundation.
