New Cleaning Industry Standard Outlines Best Practices

A consensus-based management standard for cleaning industry management, operations, performance systems, and processes is now available.
The Cleaning Industry Management Standard (CIMS) is a management framework designed to assist building service contractors and in-house service providers develop quality, customer-centered organizations, according to the International Sanitary Supply Association (ISSA), who developed the standard.
The standard does not specify products or cleaning techniques that must be used, but outlines five areas of best-management practices: Quality Systems; Service Delivery; Human Resources; Health, Safety & Environmental Stewardship; and Management Commitment. Many of the elements also can apply to other service areas within a facility, making it valuable to facilities executives as an evaluation tool, according to ISSA.
The Standard was created through a consensus-based process that brought together representatives of the cleaning, facilities management and purchasing communities. More than 100,000 constituents were represented in the process, which included full peer review, and was administered by ISSA and the American Institute for Cleaning Sciences.
