The achievement: The district implemented a $2.4 million project to address reduced energy use at no expense to taxpayers, since the project was paid for with the savings achieved from the upgrades. The district has reduced its energy use by 37 percent in the last five years.
The challenge: The biggest challenge we faced was coordinating the improvements at all 15 of our properties.
All the work needed to take place outside of operating hours, and that proved to be difficult when some locations operate 16 hours each day. We overcame those challenges by grouping the projects into three phases and concentrating on the locations that offered the quickest payback first.
