Change is the only constant in life. For proof, just look at the waves of change that have washed through facilities in the last decade, affecting everything from technology and materials to staffing and budgeting.

For maintenance and engineering managers, the changes have created a more demanding and uncertain work environment. To survive and thrive, they need more and better information and insights.

So to meet managers' evolving needs, we've changed.

Or, as we like to describe it, we've retooled. Just as facilities have updated and adapted technologies and strategies to meet emerging challenges, Maintenance Solutions has revamped its existing strategy and added new resources. Our changes are more than just a redesign. As you'll see in this issue, our new strategy goes far beyond words and photos.

The retooled Maintenance Solutions delivers more lively and engaging information and insights, both to reflect the evolution of the profession and to deliver more information and resources managers need to succeed.

We've expanded our existing editorial coverage with information in each article identifying additional resources, pointing out key takeaways for managers, and guiding them to the Web, where they can sound off and participate in the discussion.

We've also added two pieces of coverage — Roundtable and Management Insight — that help readers address essential management issues by offering proven strategies from managers and insights from industry consultants.

In short, we're providing a more robust and interactive forum where managers can find solutions to the array of challenges they face daily.

Once you've had a chance to take in the retooled Maintenance Solutions, feel free to tell me what you think of the changes.

Dan Hounsell offers observations about trends in maintenance and engineering management and the evolving role of managers in facilities.
