CDC: Crypto Outbreaks Rising

U.S. outbreaks of cryptosporidium rose an average 13 percent each year from 2009-2017, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The report describes 444 outbreaks resulting in 7,465 people becoming sick, 287 hospitalizations, and one death. 35 percent of outbreaks were linked to treated swimming water in places like pools and water playgrounds, and 13 percent were linked to contact with infected people in childcare settings.
