As gas and electric prices continue to rise, the need to reduce energy used in a building is of the utmost importance. Couple that with stakeholders need for transparency on environmental, social and governance (ESG), facilities managers are finding more and more ways to be energy efficient or NetZero among their facilities.

Register today for the Energy Efficiency Summit: Strategies to Achieve Net Zero in Your Buildings, where we'll focus on strategies to lower or neutralize your energy usage including reviewing new technology, working with utility partners, and planning for NetZero.

Sessions

Starting With Zero

Speaker: Saagar Patel

To develop a net zero plan, it is important to understand the different approaches. This session will baseline industry terminology to help building owners and operators develop their overall net zero strategy.

Learning Objectives:
  • Definition of net zero and other industry terms
  • General approaches to meet the net zero targets

More than 5 Ways to Balance Energy with Healthy Buildings ‐ How to Stay Ahead of the Game

Speaker: Jim Newman

Expectations for new building design and existing building retrofits are evolving at an ever-increasing pace. Codes and policies are doing the same. ASHRAE developed Advanced Energy Design Guides (AEDGs) to achieve 30% energy savings in the early 2000s, 50% AEDGs early in the 2nd decade, and Net Zero AEDGs from 2018 to today. During this session we will discuss these ideas, as well as proper operations and maintenance as well as ways to pay for these changes. In addition, many resources will be recommended for further study and use.

Learning Objectives:
  • Determine what to look for to reduce energy use
  • Understand how to find items that can be improved or repaired at minimal cost
  • Recognize what is going on in existing buildings with new eyes
  • Be aware of differences in air cleaning technologies
  • Identify methods of paying for improvements at minimal yearly costs
  • Discover additional resources to help

Leveraging the ESG Spotlight to Implement Energy Efficiency and Net Zero Projects

Speaker: Dhruti Patel

Investment management firms are engaging in critical ESG-related conversations with facilities managers. To achieve and sustain energy efficiency and/or net zero energy targets means having a holistic E and S program operationalized at the asset‐level. This presentation will focus on the critical role facilities managers play in supporting the achievement of ESG targets and how they can leverage the current spotlight on ESG to move the needle on implementing energy efficiency and/or net zero energy projects.

Net Zero: Achieving best practice energy performance and making a difference on climate change

Speaker: Alexi Miller & Kevin Carbonnier

The Federal government just enacted the largest investment in clean energy ever, gas and electricity prices are volatile, and climate urgency has put pressure on buildings to deliver on ESG goals. Facilities managers play a critical role in ensuring that buildings are part of the solution. Net zero energy and low-carbon operations are achievable with planning for upgrades that maximize envelope and efficiency equipment interactions. NBI is tracking roughly 800 net zero projects that offer a blueprint on what works. This interactive session will engage attendees to share what they have learned and also cover the relationship between net zero energy performance and low carbon operations.

Learning Objectives:
  • Attendees will be able to explain the critical technologies and building attributes of a net zero building.
  • Attendees will understand how access resources that will help them plan for building improvements that maximize efficiency outcomes and consideration of renewable energy supply.

Learning Objectives:

Definition of net zero and other industry terms

General approaches to meet the net zero targets

Understand how to find items that can be improved or repaired at minimal cost

Recognize what is going on in existing buildings with new eyes

Identify methods of paying for improvements at minimal yearly costs
